Social
The textile and the garment industry have always been part of human society. The value of textiles to human society goes beyond their utilitarian benefits of providing protection, warmth, and comfort. How people are committed to improving the ethical environment and labor practices at their factories. We cannot move forward leaving our society backward. This philosophy makes us realize that we have some responsibilities towards society beyond legal obligations.
Out of this sense of responsibility towards the community and environment in which we live and operate, the garment industry sector considered to be the one of the most exposed to ethical behaviors and unsecured environments where people live matters.
While it is the primary duty of factories to protect, respect, fulfill and progressively adhere to human rights, businesses can, and should, do their part.
JGATE has in this regard a complementary role by helping local businesses and factories in reaching this goal. The Association takes additional steps and aims to contribute to a supporting environment through concrete actions:
- Encourage members and factories to set policies on gender equality and human rights.
- Set the basis for an inclusive value chain; contribute to improving workers’ lives by supporting the creation of decent jobs, good services and healthy working environments that fosters workers’ human rights and basic needs.
- Raise social awareness and promote public policies that support social sustainability for all the workers in the sector.
- Create or support campaigns that aim to improve health and safety policies standards in order to provide a safe work environment in factories.
